Advocacy Voluntary Assisted Dying

Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD)

The Queensland State Government has held an Inquiry as to whether Voluntary Assisted Dying (Euthanasia) should be legalised in Queensland.  The issue of Voluntary Assisted Dying is of strong interest to GCR members, with a strong majority of members being in favour of such a scheme being legalized, as it is now in Victoria.  As a non-political organisation, we chose to participate in the Enquiry on the basis that our overall brief covers social and cultural issues, which impact on our members and their critical life decisions.

As an outcome, our Advocacy Committee decided to participate in the Enquiry and to proactively elicit personal member responses to the overall issue, with the intention of attaching these to an organizational response. There was an encouraging response from members and these submissions are shown as Attachments to the Submission to the Queensland State Government Inquiry into Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD).
